Female Sexuality

There are some things that are always going to be hard to talk about with your children. When it comes to female sexuality, it can be very hard to figure out what to say and when to say it. Though you think this is something that you should only need to discuss with your daughter, there is something to be said about talking with your boys about it as well. Girls need to understand what is going on with their bodies, and hopefully your sons will garner some respect for females if you talk with them about it.

When it comes to talking with your daughters, you may want to start at a younger age than when you go the talk from your mother. You also want to go into more detail about female sexuality than you heard when you were a teenager. Many of our parents glossed over things, and many of my generation were very confused and made some poor choices. It is uncomfortable for most to talk about female sexuality with their daughters, but it is one of the smartest things that you can do.

There are a few things about female sexuality that you should discuss with them. The first are the basics. They may learn these things in school, but that does not mean they are going to fully understand what is going on. Anything you can say will be helpful. If they understand how their reproductive organs work, what will happen, and how they should deal with it, they are going to be better prepared. You should also cover any myths about female sexuality that can lead them the wrong way - like not getting pregnant the first time. Many have learned the hard way that this myth is not true.

You should also go over the aspect of taking care of ones body and respecting ones self in regards to female sexuality. A girl should feel as if her body is special and that it should not be shared with just anyone. They should know that some boys will try just about anything, and that they have to be smart about making the right choices. They should also know that they can come to you about anything in regards to female sexuality no matter how strange or uncomfortable they feel talking about it.

When it comes to talking with boys about female sexuality, you have to be careful what you say. They should know about sex, but they should also know that they should never take it lightly. Girls with lower sense of self esteem are easy prey for the small percentage of boys that would use that to get what they want, and you should try to be sure your son is not one of them. Talk with them about how girls feel, how boys feel, and what you hope they will do. Let them know that you are there for them too no matter what they have to discuss.
