Self-Improvement and Self-Help
Self-improvement, or self-help, depends on a high level of psychological capability
with reference to emotional, intellectual or economic basis. Self-improvement is based
on an individual's self-reliance, support groups of other individuals that have a
similar issue, and/or public information available to everyone.
An individual with a particular health condition can usually find a self-improvement or
self-help group or method that is aimed at dealing with, resolving or minimizing the
individual's situation. As an example, there are parents in self-help groups that are
available for mentally ill individuals. It should be noted that these methods only work
in certain situations and there are limits as to how much they can help.
Self-help groups sometimes venture into lobby groups to push for passage of things to
aid the afflicted individuals. Peer-to-peer support is when individuals help themselves
by using self-help to learn the issues and treatment of their health problem.
Self-help books on a wide variety of topics and self-help legal services are emerged
in recent years. These products and services have expanded at a fast pace. In addition,
the Internet provides a vast amount of information on self-improvement topics that can
be easily accessed.
