The most common job that those coming out of television production school could hope to get would be at a local news station. Though there are more opportunities in larger areas, most want you to have more than just schooling under your belt. You can start in a small market where you are needed the most, and then get the experience you need to move on elsewhere. This is something you will learn through television production school, and is something you should remember as you decide where to go when you graduate.

You are going to learn all aspects of production when you go through a program at a television production school. Not only are you going to learn how to run the cameras, you are going to learn how to frame a shot. That is more important than you may think. You are also going to learn how to use the audio board that is essential to any television show or production. Without sound, the show is not going to work, obviously.

Through television production school you are also going to learn about the switcher. This is something that is used in many live broadcasts, and is something that must be used when you are doing live, local news. Basically, the switcher will change the live shot from camera to camera per the instructions that you get from the director and/or the producer. The switcher position is a hard one, and is not for someone who has a hard time with stress. However, it can be one of the most fun.

You can also learn what the producer and the directors do through your courses at television production school. These are not commonly positions that you can get straight out of school, but they are ones you learn as you go and then move up to as you make your way through your career. Remember, you don’t have to stay in news if you go through television production school, as people are needed for all types of programs. You can even start your own video production company if you take more classes that can help you out with that. These can be very fun and rewarding careers for the right people.
