Reference and Education
A reference, typically, is a relationship that exists when one object links
to another object. These relations between objects can exist in time, logic,
art, computer science and scholarship. The role of reference in language has
been part of mankind's existence for at least the past couple hundred years.
A referent is an object to which a reference is directed or leads.
A reference, in semantics, is the relationship that exists between a noun or
pronoun and the object named. In this case, the referent of the word is the
object referred to. Some words can have an absent referent. In religion, as
an example, the term "God" is a reference that has an absent referent. In
mathematics, the symbol or number zero ("0") is an absent referent.
In art, a reference applies to an item that is the basis of the work. In literature,
a previously published academic written work can be the source for claims or
theory reference in the text. In computer science, a reference is a datatype
that refers to an object located in memory and creates a linked list. In a
library, reference refers to a reference work (dictionary, encyclopedia, etc)
containing information covering an extensive amount of knowledge.
Education is the teaching and also learning of essential knowledge, technical
competence and proper conduct. It is basically the focus and gathering of professions
or trades, skills and development from a moral, mental and aesthetic point of
view.
Formal education is very important factor in most societies. It is the systematic
teaching, training and instruction by rofessional teachers. The development of
of a curriculum and the skills of the teachers are fundamental to the success
of formal education. Teachers in specialized areas (engineering, health, law,
etc) may choose to teach only at institutions of higher learning such as a college
or university.
An educational system is usually set up to train and educate children and youth.
The training curriculum is used to define what is to be taught to the students
and result of obtaining the education. The teaching profession specifies the
teaching and enables a process of learning. Hopefully, the teaching profession
leads to a system of egulations, examinations, policies, structures and financial
funding so the teachers can teach to the best of their abilities.
