News and Society
News, very simply, is any information on a current topic presented by
broadcast, Internet, print or word of mouth to another person or group
of people. For example, the news can be reported in newspapers and
magazines and on radio and television.
News is published almost instantly today by live satellite technology
as it happens. It can be reported by television, radio and Internet
right from the source of the current event. The news, previously, was
called in by a reporter (or physically brought to the publisher) from
the event and had to be translated into print, radio or television for
distribution to the audience. It might take hours or days under the older
method to get the current news to be published and become common knowledge.
Newspapers were a common method of communicating news to the population
via morning and/or evening editions. The evening editions have generally
stopped in many areas. News should include content that presents the
"five W's" of the current event (i.e., who, what, when, where, why and
how). In general, newspapers report the most important information at
the beginning of their articles so that readers can get informed very
quickly.
A society is the population of human beings sharing a relationship
of distinctive institutions and/or cultures. It is the social, economic
and industrial bonding structure which includes varied peoples. Society
can also be used to define an organized group of individuals with a
specific or common purpose such as cultural, religious, political,
scientific, or other purpose.
The term society, in a political science view, means all the relationships
between humans in a territory as opposed to the ruling government of the
individuals. In a sociology setting, Society is the group of individuals
in a social system where interactions are mainly between individuals of
that group.
