Home Business
The typical home business is a small business operating by an entrepreneur
from their home office. The home office, in turn, generally exists in the
owner's actual home. In limited situations, the office may be set up outside
the home in another location.
In general terms, the home business is defined as having a very limited
number of employees. These employees are usually part of the business owner's
immediate family. It is known as a family business in the particular case were
the employees are immediate family members.
A home business is not set up to have a business shop frontage (no signs
installed in front of the house) and no customer parking other than an occasional
visitor parking in front of the house or in the driveway. There is basically no
street signs that advertise the business.
Free information on many aspects of a home business can be found on the
www.business.gov website under the category "Home Based Businesses".
Many individuals, during the past couple of decades, have turned their skills,
ideas and hobbies into a profitable home business. The business owner is known
as an entrepreneur who organizes, risking his/her investment in the business and
operates the venture. This type of business is not for everyone and requires
substantial self-motivation and energy. The prospect of a profitable operation is
what normally drives most home business owners.
