Automotive
As everyone knows today, the automobile is a vehicle with wheels that is used to
carry passengers and/or products from one place to another. It has its own built in
motor or engine that is the power plant for moving the automobile. Automobiles usually
have four wheels and also have one to eight seats for passengers to occupy. The automobile
is primarily designed to be operated on paved roads.
The term "automobile" is derived from the French language with a Greek twist. "Auto", or self,
is combined with "mobilis", or moving, to create the word automobile. It basically means a
vehicle that is capable of moving itself and not pushed or pulled by an animal or another
vehicle.
The term "car", on the other hand, is generally believed to be derived from a Latin orgin.
"Carrus" or "carru" is a Latin word which means wheeled vehicle. Another possibility is the
Middle English word "carre" which means cart.
