Blackpool Entertainment

Traditional British seaside resorts have had to compete with the lure of Spanish and Greek destinations in recent years but Blackpool entertainment and hospitality brings people back year after year. It's one big fun palace, particularly for visitors coming from other parts of the north of England. Given its position on the west coast, the weather can be a bit windy but it doesn't stop tourists enjoying themselves because there is so much to do indoors.

There are several venues that present variety shows and most are suitable for the whole family to attend. Variety acts may not be the fashion on television anymore but the public loves them and they are an important part of Blackpool entertainment. Comedians are particularly welcome, whether they are up and coming novices or established stars. Theatres also present circus acts such as jugglers and the annual pantomime season. Going out on the town means plenty of pubs, restaurants and bingo parlors.

One of the most popular times to visit is from late August to early November when the famous Blackpool Illuminations decorate the seafront. Strolling along the promenade known as The Golden Mile brings fish and chip shops, game arcades and nightclubs. The Pleasure Beach is an area containing an amusement park with lots of rides and venues for shows. The Pepsi Max Big One is the biggest roller coaster and is not for the faint hearted! Blackpool entertainment is also at the forefront of the town's most famous landmark, the Blackpool Tower. A leisure complex is located beneath the tower including the Tower Ballroom and the Tower Circus.

The Winter Gardens is another well-known venue and serves as a conference facility as well as a host for Blackpool entertainment presentations. It includes the Opera House, which is one of the largest theatres in Europe. There is also the Pavilion Theatre, Empress Ballroom, and the Spanish Hall, Arena and Olympia. For fans of the science fiction show, Doctor Who, a treat is in store at the museum at the Golden Mile Centre which houses the largest Doctor Who exhibition in the UK with props and costumes from the show.

The town is always looking to the future to keep its place at the head of the tourist trade. Plans have been proposed for the construction of a new indoor leisure complex, known as Storm City. The proposals include a 12,000 capacity arena, retail outlets, rooftop gardens, first class hotels and five entertainment venues, each with a theme. There will also be Blackpool's own version of the London Eye.
